The Artistic Evolution of Bruno Pulga
Born in Bologna, Italy, Bruno Pulga was a painter and graphic artist who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, where he was a student of Giorgio Morandi and Virgilio Guidi. His early training included studies at the faculty of architecture in Venice and Florence. Following his studies, he traveled to Paris in 1950. His early work was characterized by the landscapes of the Apennines, though he quickly moved away from realism toward a form of abstract landscape painting.
During the first half of the 1960s, after settling in Paris, his work focused on gestural, minimalist, and frontal evocations of landscapes, such as cliffs and islands. This period also saw the emergence of his Têtes (Heads) series, a theme that appeared from 1955 and reappeared in the mid-1960s, treating the human face in a manner close to the informal. In later years, his painting transitioned into large, immersive color fields inspired by the vegetable world, characterized by textures ranging from nervous graphic patterns to radiant light.
