His life, though tragically short, was marked by an intense dedication to artistic excellence and a profound sensitivity to beauty,

resulting in a mere fourteen prints that nonetheless secured his place among the masters of the genre. Born into a samurai family with artistic inclinations—his father, Kanemizu, was an amateur painter—Goyō’s early exposure to calligraphy and painting within the Shijō school laid the foundation for his later explorations. He initially studied under Uchiyama Jōsuken Ikkan before moving to Tokyo at age eighteen to pursue formal training…
