Under the mentorship of the esteemed James Giles RSA, a master of highland scenery and animal subjects, Cassie began to refine a vision that would eventually capture the very soul of the Scottish coast. In February of that year, he was elected a full member of the Royal Scottish Academy, reaching the pinnacle of his profession. Tragically, his health had been failing, and he passed away on May 11, 1879, shortly after this hard-won honor.
