The Life and Artistic Journey of Alexander Kolde
Born in Haldensleben, Germany, Alexander Kolde was a painter who studied at the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the Art Academy in Königsberg. His formal training included studies under Angelo Jank in Munich and later under Lovis Corinth in Berlin. Following his service in the First World War, where he sustained a severe wound, he established himself as a freelance painter in Königsberg. During this period, he became a central figure in the local art community, founding the artists' association "Der Ring" and leading an interest group for his colleagues. His work was characterized by vibrant colors, positioning him at the threshold of Expressionism.
Kolde's career faced significant shifts due to political circumstances. After 1933, his independent style led to him being sidelined, and an exhibition of his work was prohibited in 1936. Following the events of 1945, he fled to Flensburg, where he continued to work despite the difficulties of re-establishing his footing. He died in Flensburg at the age of 77.
