The Artistic Evolution of Marcel Barbeau
Born in Montreal, Canada, Marcel Barbeau was a multidisciplinary artist who engaged with various forms of abstraction and art techniques to express himself. He studied under Paul-Émile Borduas at l'École du Meuble in Montreal, where he shared a studio with Jean-Paul Riopelle. Following the departure of his contemporaries to Paris and New York, Barbeau explored several paths, including small ink non-objective paintings, calligraphy, drawing, and collage. His practice eventually expanded to include Op Art and film techniques, as well as performance art that materialized through various media.
