Garrard’s artistic journey began under the rigorous tutelage of esteemed masters such as Joseph Simpson and Sawrey Gilpin. By 1781, as a student at the Royal Academy, Garrard began to emerge as a specialist in equine subjects. His efforts culminated in the landmark "Models and Busts Act" of 1798.
