The Life and Artistic Journey of František Ronovský

František Ronovský was a Czech painter and a dedicated figuralist. Born in Prague, he began developing his interest in painting through private lessons in drawing and painting under Vojtěch Hynais, Antonín Růžička, and Rudolf Pařízek. He pursued his studies in figurative painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, studying in the studios of professors Miloslav Holý and Karel Souček. During his formative years, he participated in exhibitions organized by Mánes and Umělecká beseda.

His career included membership in the artistic group Etapa, where he worked alongside artists such as Václav Kiml and Jaroslav Pešicová. Ronovský's work was featured in various international venues, including the Biennale of Young Artists in Paris, the Biennale in Venice, and the Biennale in São Paulo. His travels took him through the GDR, the USSR, Central Asia, France, Austria, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Artistic Style and Themes

As a painter of new figuration, Ronovský was a consistent figuralist, often working on large-scale canvases. While he experienced a brief period of abstraction in the early 1960s, his work frequently focused on motifs of cafes and female nudes, sometimes experimenting with encaustic. He was also drawn to themes of Calvary and piety.

In his later years, he spent time creating in his rural residence in Hajská near Strakonice. Following the death of his mother in 1983, he produced an extensive cycle of paintings titled Maminka. His works are represented in various galleries across the Czech Republic and abroad.
