Gilles is a painting of 1719 by the French Artist Antoine Watteau (1853–1890). The oil on canvas painting is drawn on Rococo style and based on painting genre and it measures 184 by 149 centimeters. Watteau started painting it in 1718 and completed it in 1719. It is housed at Musée du Louvre, Paris. The painting represents a confused actor with slowly fading smile who appears to have forgotten his lines. Watteau has materialized into the fearful reality of existence, sporting as his only armor the pathetic clown costume. Gilles is now known as Pierrot which means actor or masquerader.
