eines von mehreren großen gemälden, die dali in dieser zeit fertiggestellt hat. die entdeckung amerikas durch christoph kolumbus ist massiv 14 füße groß von 9 füße breit . das gemälde wurde von huntington hartford in auftrag gegeben , ein amerikanischer geschäftsmann , wer war der erbe der A&P Supermarkt , für die eröffnung seines museums , galerie für moderne kunst , in new york . das museum befand sich am columbus-kreis , daher die inspiration für das thema des gemäldes . als frommer römisch-katholischer , dali porträtierte kolumbus als den christlichen retter , die wahre kirche und das heil in die neue welt bringen . das gemälde befindet sich jetzt im salvador dali museum , in st. . Petersburg , Florida .
