isola dei morti ( Tedesco : die toteninsel ) è il best-known dipinto dell'artista simbolista svizzero arnold böcklin ( 1827–1901 ) . le stampe erano molto popolari in europa centrale all'inizio 20th secolo vladimir nabokov osservò nel suo romanzo la disperazione che potevano essere " trovato in ogni casa di berlino " . Böcklin ha prodotto diverse versioni del misterioso dipinto tra 1880 e 1886 . La quinta versione è stata commissionata in 1886 dal museo delle belle arti , Lipsia , dove è ancora appeso .
