Les deux enfants , vêtu de costumes saxons caractéristiques du meilleur type , on pense qu'ils sont frère et sœur , peut-être les enfants du duc george le barbu . La couronne portée par le garçon , toutefois , signifie son engagement à se marier , et la fille est susceptible d'être sa future épouse . Cranach , peintre de cour à wittenberg et le principal artiste de saxe , était très demandé en tant que portraitiste ; ces deux tableaux expliquent bien la master's popularité .
