Ochtervelt's i dipinti sono quasi tutti eleganti upper-class interni , in cui ha mostrato un'abilità nel dipingere sete e raso . L'immagine mostrata qui è un tipico esempio delle sue scene interne . Un middle-class la famiglia viene mostrata rigidamente in posa per un ritratto di gruppo in una sala piuttosto spoglia ma impressionante . Gli abiti di raso bianco e giallo lucido delle due ragazze e la combinazione di marrone , il grigio e il nero annunciano le mode di colore che in seguito hanno dominato il 'Feinmalerei' periodo di genere . Le forme sono clean-cut e liscia e levigata come se fosse stata accesa su un tornio .
