al centro di una delle pareti della sala capitolare , tra le due grandi finestre , è la tomba del doge francesco dandolo ( d . 1339 ) . il sarcofago bizantino raffigura la morte della vergine circondata dai discepoli con il redentore nel mezzo che trasporta Mary's anima sotto forma di un bambino in fasce che vanno in paradiso . sopra il sarcofago nella lunetta dell'arco è una bella opera di paolo veneziano ( 1339 ) , chi fu l'iniziatore di quella scuola di pittura che avrebbe reso famosa la città nel corso dei secoli . l'immagine è san francesco e santa elisabetta d'ungheria presentano il doge dandolo e la dogaressa alla vergine .
