questo dipinto nel campidoglio degli stati uniti raffigura la presentazione della bozza della dichiarazione di indipendenza al congresso . Era basato su una versione molto più piccola della stessa scena , attualmente tenuto dalla yale university art gallery . trumbull dipinse molte delle figure nella foto dalla vita e visitò anche la sala dell'indipendenza per rappresentare la camera in cui si incontrò il secondo congresso continentale . Il oil-on-canvas il lavoro è stato commissionato in 1817 , acquistato in 1819 , e collocato nella rotonda in 1826 .
