madonna mit dem buch ( connestabile madonna ) ist ein kleiner ( und wahrscheinlich unvollendet ) gemälde des italienischen renaissancekünstlers raphael . es war wahrscheinlich das letzte werk, das raphael in umbrien gemalt hat, bevor er nach florenz gezogen ist . sein name stammt von der conestabile-familie von perugia , von wem es von alexander ii. von russland in erworben wurde 1871 . der zar präsentierte es seiner gemahlin , maria alexandrowna . Seit damals , das gemälde wurde in der eremitage von st. . Petersburg . das gemälde zeigt die madonna, die das kind beim lesen eines buches hält . Im 1881 , als das bild auf leinwand verschoben wurde , es wurde festgestellt, dass die madonna in der originalfassung einen granatapfel in betracht zog ( symbol der passion ) anstelle des buches .
