Im Wilde's geschichte , dorian gray gibt ein porträt von sich als attraktiver junger mann in auftrag und tauscht später seine seele gegen eine ever-youthful aussehen . Als die still-handsome Gray führt ein zunehmend zersplittertes und böses leben , seine gemalte darstellung verrottet und verfällt , das ausmaß seiner moralischen korruption offenbaren . Albright's bekannt als makaber maler machte ihn zur idealen wahl von albert lewin , der regisseur des films , das schreckliche bild von grau zu malen . Obwohl der film in schwarz und weiß gedreht wurde , Lewin filmte das gemalte porträt in farbe, um es hervorzuheben Gray's schockierende transformation .
