Desde entonces , la pintura ha estado en exhibición en el hermitage museum of st . Petersburgo . la pintura retrata a la virgen con el niño mientras lee un libro. . En 1881 , cuando la imagen se movió al lienzo , se descubrió que en la versión original la virgen contemplaba una granada ( símbolo de la pasión ) en lugar del libro .
