A new 28-cent Great Americans Series stamp honoring Sitting Bull was issued on September 14, 1989, in Rapid City, South Dakota. The dedication ceremony was held in conjunction with a meeting of the United Sioux Tribes.Sitting Bull was the legendary chief, spiritual and political leader of the Hunkpapa Sioux Indians.
