The decorative frame of this purse is made of pinchbeck, an imitation gold named after its inventor, the London clockmaker Christopher Pinchbeck. The material became fashionable during the late eighteenth century, particularly when paired with knitted purses. This tiny green silk purse would have carried just a few coins.
