Eduardo Kingman Riofrío was a renowned Ecuadorian artist born in Loja, Ecuador on February 23, 1913. He is considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th century in Ecuador. Kingman's artistic journey began at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Quito, where he studied under Victor Mideros. Further studies took him to Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, and finally to the San Francisco Art Institute in California.

Artistic Career

Kingman's art career spanned over 50 years, during which he held the post of principal professor at Quito's Escuela de Bellas Artes and Director of the Museo de Arte Colonial de Quito. In 1940, Kingman founded the Caspicara Gallery in Quito. His original prints and paintings were exhibited internationally in cities such as Paris, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Mexico City, Caracas, and Bogotá. Key aspects of Kingman's art include his ability to express the social realities of Ecuador's indigenous peoples through his paintings, lithographies, and woodcuts. He was known as "the painter of hands" due to his focus on the human figure and everyday life.

Awards and Recognition

Kingman was honored with a one-man exhibition of his art at the United Nations in New York City. His work has been exhibited at various museums, including the Butler Institute of American Art and the Museo Hastings Museum and Art Gallery.
