Βιογραφία:

Jamil Hamoudi was an Iraqi artist born in Baghdad in 1924. He became the Director of the Ministry of Culture's Fine Arts Department and is noted for his involvement in various Iraqi and Arabic art movements including the Hurufiyya movement. This movement, which emerged in the second half of the twentieth century, bridged the gap between traditional and modern Iraqi art by combining tradition and modernity in the precepts of modern art. Hamoudi's work, such as his sculpture 'Peasant Woman', contributed to the development of a culture-specific visual language that instilled a sense of national identity in Iraq when it was asserting its independence. He died in 2003.
