Sydney Kumalo was a South African contemporary artist and sculptor. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1935 and died in 1988. He is best known for his work with metal and creating metal figures with his sculptures. Kumalo was a prominent figure in the South African art scene and his work is highly regarded. In 2003, he was posthumously awarded the Order of the Ikhamanga (Gold) by the South African government for his contribution to South African art.
