William Wyon was a British engraver and medallist who served as the official chief engraver at the Royal Mint from 1828 until his death. He was born in Birmingham in 1795 and began his career by apprenticing with his father, Peter Wyon, who was also an engraver. William Wyon moved to London in 1816 and studied under John Flaxman, eventually becoming a prominent figure in the field of engraving and medallion design. He produced numerous notable works, including coins and medals, and was elected as a member of the Royal Academy in 1838. Wyon died on October 29, 1851.
