1857年 1863年 1865年 1878年 1890年 1890年 1890年 年以降になるとパステルや油彩を用いた華麗な色彩表現へ移行し、怪物や天使、少女や花などを主題に夢幻的世界を描いた。本作品も同時期のものである。ここでの主役は、花というより青い花瓶。背景の地色に溶け入りそうなキンセンカの地味な色合いに比べて、花瓶の色の鮮やかさと妖艶さが目立っている。曖昧模糊とした虚空に浮かぶ燐光を放つこの花瓶は、ルドン芸術の重要なテーマである《出現》を連想させるものがある。
