1832年,上川弘治接获邀请,参加正式的游行,从家乡江户送来礼物给在京的皇帝. 沿着连接两国首都的通凯德(Tōkaid)路线出行,弘治绘制了沿途每个村庄的图. 弘治回国后,他完成了纪念自己旅程的五十五行印相系列,取名"托凯道道五十三站",其中收有他的一些最出名的印相. 平面上印有"神奈川出海"一幅图,图上画出一个海边城镇,船坐落在平稳的蓝色水上,镇上人沿着岸边商店走道. 水上坐落的白发光使得很难分辨出海到底从何而起和从何而起.
