Hugo Schmeisser was a German developer of 20th century infantry weapons. He was born in Jena, Thuringia, Germany in 1884. His father, Louis Schmeisser, was one of the best-known weapons designers in Europe. Hugo Schmeisser's life and work mostly took place in the weapons manufacturing city of Suhl, Thuringia. He is associated with the development and production of the Bergmann machine guns used during the First World War and designed the Dreyse 1907 Pistol which was used in both World Wars. He died in 1953.
