Art Nouveau was an international style movement, which found its own, but typical expression in each country. The porcelain factory Rörstrand became especially important for the Scandinavian Art Nouveau. Here, from 1896 onwards, unconventional, often unique porcelain objects were created, which were also exhibited in large numbers at the world fair in Paris in 1900. Characteristic of the Art Nouveau objects at Rörstrand were the sculptural shaping of the porcelain or the slightly relief-like formation of decorations, which were taken from the world of plants and flowers or the symbolic water theme, which was very typical of the time around 1900, as in this centrepiece in the form of a water lily.
