World War I Petrus Regout mobilization match holder is decorated on four sides with a soldier saluting, a soldier blowing a trumpet, the lion of the Royal House of Orange and the inscription “Herinnering aan de mobilisatie 1914” (Remembrance to the Mobilization 1914). In 1836, Petrus Regout founded a modern, mechanized earthenware factory and from 1899 onwards under the name of Sphinx, it grew into the most important ceramic factory in Maastricht in The Netherlands. In 1958, there was a merger of Sphinx and Société Céramique. Petrus Regout (1801-1878) descended from a Maastricht merchant family that since the 17th century had been active in the earthenware trade. Regout was also a member of the Senate of the Dutch Parliament.
