The chromatic contrast is conveyed through the shadow projected on the tiered square facing the humble houses overlooking the sea shore and enhances the feeling of bright luminosity emanating from the sea view, where the sun-washed white walls stand out against the airy pale blue of the sky and the deep blue of the sea. As it is often the case for Leto’s more poetic works, the presence of humans is only hinted at. Only the terracotta vases lovingly set one next to the other on the windowsill, the shady pergola, the boats moored along the shore bear evidence to the humble existence of the fishermen. The artist’s attitude was of detached indulgence towards them during the last period of time he spent in solitude in Capri.
