Geboren in Üsküdar, Istanbul, war Şeker Ahmed Paşa ein führendes Mitglied der militärischen Malergruppe. Er begann sein Studium im Jahre 1855 an der Medizinischen Hochschule, aber im Jahre 1856 links an der Militärakademie einschreiben. Während er dort noch Student war, arbeitete er als Assistent Kunstlehrer. 1864 erhielt Sultan Abdülaziz ihm ein Stipendium, um Kunst in Paris zu studieren. 1870 studierte er unter den Malern Gustave Boulanger und Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904). Seine Gemälde wurden 1869 und 1870 im Pariser Salon ausgestellt. 1871 kehrte er nach Istanbul zurück, wo er berufen wurde, an der Sultanahmet School of Art zu lehren, und lehrte auch an verschiedenen Militärschulen. Er stieg auf den Rang des Kapitäns und begann Kunst am Medical College zu lehren. 1873 organisierte er die Türkei
