Die Giralda diente einmal als Minarett der Moschee von Sevilla, die im 13. Jahrhundert in eine Kathedrale umgewandelt wurde. Es wird aus einer weniger als ikonischen Sicht gesehen, als ob eine Aufzeichnung eines lässigen touristischen Moments. Diese informelle Skizze wurde während eines der Ausflüge von Dauzats nach Spanien in der Gesellschaft von Baron Isidore Taylor (1789–1879) gemalt, der eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Erweiterung des französischen populären Geschmacks spielte, um Kunstwerke aus anderen Kulturen und Szenen des Reisens im Ausland zu umfassen.
