Es ist nicht bekannt, für welche Kirche dieses Altarbild gemacht wurde. Da es auf Leinwand ist, könnte es leicht von Mantua, wo Mantegna war Hofkünstler, zu einer Kirche woanders geschickt werden, und wird in der Tat zuerst in Mailand aufgenommen.
