Rubens Praxis, reale Menschen als Figurenmodelle in seinen religiösen und mythologischen Szenen zu verwenden, wurde in Antwerpen von seinen jüngeren Kollegen Jacob Jordaens und Anthony van Dyck genau verfolgt. Dieses Gemälde wurde einmal Rubens zugeschrieben, aber seine vergleichsweise weichen Formen und strukturierte Oberfläche sind typisch für den jungen Van Dyck und Kontrast zu Rubens emphatic Modellierung und inzisive Entwürfen.
