Die Perlmuttindustrie in Wien erreichte in den 1820er und 1830er Jahren ihren Höhepunkt, als zahlreiche Luxusartikel wie Kerzenschirme und Schreibtischsets mit dem irisierenden Material verschönert wurden. Balthasar Wigand, verantwortlich für die Miniatur auf dem Deckel dieser Box, spezialisiert auf Blick auf die Stadt und seine Umgebung, besonders für den Einsatz auf kleinen Möbeln und Kisten lackiert.
