Die kolossale Gestalt Christi (1821) wurde 1844 von den Erben des Künstlers an die Akademie gespendet. Es war eines von zwei Gipsmodellen des Bildhauers (der andere wird in den Thorvaldsens Museen in Kopenhagen konserviert) für die Marmorstatue (1821-1827) für die Vor Frue Kirke in Kopenhagen bestimmt. Zusammen mit Antonio Canovas Religion wurde die Statue in die Kirche der Heiligen Lukas und Martina gelegt. 1926 wurden die Statuen während der Bauarbeiten am Gebäude schlecht beschädigt. Thorvaldsens zerbrochener Christus wurde aufgesägt und nur die Büste und ein paar andere Stücke überleben jetzt. V. Rotili
