Diese Besetzung, von der zwei Marmorversionen bekannt sind - eine im Thorvaldsen Museum in Kopenhagen und die andere im Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia - wurde an die Akademie am 20. November 1831 gespendet: „Signor commendatore Thorwaldsen hat die akademische Galerie mit dem Gipsguss der Statue von Ganymede präsentiert.“ Nach seiner Wahl als Akademiker, im März 1808, Thorvaldsen hatte der Akademie, nach dem Satz, ein Gips Bas-Relief (wahrscheinlich ein Genio Lumen), die er aber im folgenden Juli zurückgefordert, um es in Marmor zu übersetzen, versprechend im Austausch ein anderes, perfekter Gips. Die Gabe von Ganymede, viele Jahre später, ehrte dieses alte Versprechen. (P. P.)
