Bian Wenyu war ein Student von Dong Qichang, der sich für ein intensives Studium spezieller alter Meistermaler einsetzte, insbesondere Huang Gongwang (1269–1654). Huangs Stil inspirierte die ropy Textur Striche und gestapelte Felsen Gruppierungen, die Bian in dieser Darstellung eines Flussrückzugs am Fuße eines Berges verwendet.
