1834 König Ludwig I of Bavaria in Auftrag gegeben einen Zyklus von griechischen Landschaften von Rottmann, die schließlich nummerierte achtunddreißig Leinwand (Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, München). Diese Skizze ist die frei bemalte von ein halbes Dutzend Studien für Pronoia (1846/47), die an die Grabstätte bayerischer Soldaten erinnert, die halfen, die osmanischen Türken in der nahe gelegenen Nauplia im Jahre 1822, während des griechischen Unabhängigkeitskrieges.
