James Reid Pringle wurde dreimal von Fraser gemalt. Pringle war in politischen Angelegenheiten tätig, diente als Präsident des Senats von South Carolina, 1814-1818, als Collector of the Port of Charleston, und während der Nichtigerklärung Kontroversen war er der erfolgreiche Union Party Kandidaten für Intendant von Charleston. Zu einer Zeit, die Edward Greene Malbone zugeschrieben wird, trägt dieses Porträt seinen Miniaturen, vor allem im schraffierten Hintergrund und der Platzierung des Sitzers, deutliche Ähnlichkeiten.
