Mrs. Prioleau war achtzig, als Fraser ihr Porträt malte. Sie war die Tochter von Catherine Cordes und die Schwiegertochter von Samuel und Providence Hext Prioleau. Während der Belagerung von Charleston durch die Briten 1780 wurden Mrs. Prioleau und ihr Kind nach Philadelphia geschickt, während ihr Mann in St. Augustine inhaftiert wurde. Wie mehrere andere Porträts dieser Zeit ist die Ähnlichkeit von Frau Prioleau eine sensible Studie einer älteren Person.
