"In The Green Trees, die Landschaft in Loctudy (das ist auch in einer zeitgenössischen Malerei zu finden, Young Girls Picking Flowers by the Sea, früher in der Sammlung des symbolistischen Dichters Georges Rodenbach) wird als Rahmen für eine traumhafte Zeremonie verwendet, in der ein junges Mädchen aus einer Prozession tritt, um einen Engel zu treffen, von dem sie durch eine kurze Wand getrennt ist; dies ist eine dramatisierte Allegorie der Calling oder Maurice Denis, der dieses Gemälde hoch bewertete, hatte es am 7. Januar 1917 in der Galerie Druet hinterlegt, nur um es am 22. April 1918 zurückzunehmen, nie wieder damit zu teilen."
