Akzeptiert von der HM-Regierung anstelle von Erbschaftsteuer und dem Samuel Courtauld Trust zugewiesen, 2010In seinen Skulpturen von Tänzern suchte Edgar Degas den Körper in Bewegung oder in anstrengenden Balletthaltungen zu erfassen. Seine Modelle waren oft junge und verarmte Ballerinas an der Paris Opéra. Ein regelmäßiges Modell seiner, nur als Pauline bekannt, beschreibt den Stamm dieser Pose, die sie wiederholt über viele Sitzungen hielt.
