Diese Arbeit wurde schon immer gedacht, zur Gruppe von Blumenlebenen zu gehören, die Manet in der Mitte der 1860er Jahre gemalt hat und damit zeitgemäß mit den Peonies des Museums (1976.201.16) zu sein. Die dicke Anwendung der Farbe und der warmen Palette deutet jedoch auf ein Datum von etwa 1860 hin. In der Tat erscheint die gleiche gold-und-blau gemusterte Tischdecke in Manet's Portrait of the Artist's Parents (Musée d"Orsay, Paris), die unterschrieben und datiert 1860. Als solche kann dies Manets früheste Blumenmalerei sein. Manet gab diese Stille dem Künstler Berthe Morisots Schwester Yves, möglicherweise anlässlich ihrer Heirat mit Théodore Gobillard im Dezember 1866.
