Edward Field kam 1882 nach Pont-Aven und blieb mit anderen Malern im Hotel Julia. Er kehrte 1885 nach Bretagne zurück und gründete eine Adresse in Pont-Aven. Dieses Panel von der Pension Gloanec in Pont-Aven wurde von einem Mitglied der Hotelierfamilie bis zum nächsten bis zum Erwerb durch das Museum weitergegeben. Die Wände des Esszimmers wurden mit bemalten Platten, Geschenke der Künstler an Marie-Jeanne Gloanec (1839–1915) verziert. Diese Arbeit zeigt ein friedliches Interieur, in dem ein Mann, der eine Kappe trägt, in der Nähe eines Herdes liest. Hinter ihm werden mehrere Leinwand an der Wand angezeigt
