Vigée Le Brun nahm an der Salon von 1785 mit mehr als zehn Einreichungen teil, einschließlich dieser Darstellung von Calonne (1734–1802), Controller-General von Finanzen. Er hält ein Dokument, das Au Roi (To the King) beschriftet, das das königliche Vertrauen, das er genossen. Der Maler, in einer bemerkenswerten Charakterstudie, betont seine Züchtigkeit.
