Das gemälde zeigt das sogenannte “ rot tower” ein freistehender spätgotischer glockenturm mit einem gotischen ziegelsockel , eines der wahrzeichen der stadt halle . es steht auf dem gleichen platz wie die marktkirche ( die kirche links im hintergrund ) was feininger als motiv in seiner arbeit wählte . Das quadrat wird als so stark verzerrter winkel dargestellt, dass es in die bildebene gefaltet zu sein scheint . Es ist allseitig von hohen gebäuden umgeben . Innerhalb dieser einstellung , der turm verbindet stabilität und aggression . Um seine monumentalität zu unterstreichen , Kirchner wählte für den turm einen größeren maßstab als für seine umgebung
