Die Komposition dieses Bildes scheint von einer Skulptur in geringem Relief inspiriert worden zu sein, die wahrscheinlich entweder von Donatello oder Michelangelo (Granacci war ein Mitschüler mit Michelangelo in der Werkstatt von Ghirlandaio.). Granacci hat die Komposition jedoch durch die Platzierung der Figuren in einem lichtgefüllten Raum sichtbarer gemacht. Eine andere Version des Bildes von Granacci existiert und die gleiche Zusammensetzung wurde von Bacchiacca (Linsky Collection, The Met) behandelt. Das vorliegende Bild stammt aus dem Jahr 1520.
