Nadar war Journalist, Romanist, Cartoonist, Ballonist, Lithograph und, ab 1849, Fotograf. Wie Bradys Niederlassungen in Amerika wurde das Pariser Atelier von Nadar schnell zum Zentrum für Prominentenfotografie und verkaufte überzeugende Bilder der großen politischen und kulturellen Figuren der Zeit.
