Albert Gallaton (1761-1849) wurde in Genf zu einer aristokratischen Schweizer Familie geboren. 1780 emigrierte er in die Vereinigten Staaten und ließ sich in Pennsylvania nieder, wo er seine politische Karriere begann. 1794 wurde er zum ersten von drei Begriffen im Repräsentantenhaus gewählt, wo er den Ausschuss für Wege und Mittel gründete. Im Jahre 1801 ernannte Thomas Jefferson seinen Sekretär der Schatzkammer. Er diente von 1816 bis 1823 als Botschafter Frankreichs und nach Großbritannien 1826 bis 1827.
