Tiepolo zeigt eine gefeierte Passage von Virgils Aeneid, die beschreibt, wie Neptune die Winde beruhigte, um den Trojaner Aeneas vor dem Schiffswrack zu retten. Neptune erhebt seinen Arm, um die Personifizierungen der Winde herauszufordern, die über den Vordergrund fliehen. Jupiter, identifizierbar mit seinem Adler, wird mutig foreshortened gezeigt, eine Entscheidung getroffen, um die Szene durch die bemalte Decke illusionistisch aufsteigen zu lassen. Diese Skizze kann mit Tiepolo Dekoration eines Zimmers mit einer Apotheose von Aeneas (1764–66) im Palacio Real, Madrid verbunden sein.
